Nathan Mickle is a musician, arranger and composer from Oklahoma City, OK, living in Nashville, TN with his wife, Sarah. He has performed in numerous operas, musicals, and plays and has also written music for recitals, stage plays, and corporate media. He divides his time between practicing, teaching arranging at a local university and developing his craft as a composer and arranger. In addition to composition, Nathan has also been flexing his orchestration and arranging muscles in the past few years, producing, sequencing, arranging, and orchestrating for big bands, string quartets, and other ensembles. Over the past year he has sequenced or provided an original orchestration for over 25 tracks through Christian World and Lifeway Publishing. He is a lover of many types of music, but has a deep appreciation for the works of "classical" composers as well as jazz greats. His overwhelming passion for classical music began while in his first semester of college:
"Our choir learned Carmina Burana by Carl Orff - a piece I had never heard of until then. I remember thinking, 'This music is pretty neat. I wonder how it's all going to come together.' When it came time for the first performance with choir, piano, and percussion, I literally lost my breath at the downbeat. I had my mouth open for 'O Fortuna,' but nothing came out. I nearly passed out - I was so thrilled. I have been blessed to have learned and performed, with so many incredible musicians, major works like Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem and his Hodie, the Epilogue of which is mind-blowing, as well as Orff's Carmina Burana, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, and so many others."
As a performer, he ascribes to the jazz tradition, doing his best to echo the styles of the greats: Sinatra, Bennett, Connick, Fitzgerald, and Armstrong.
